The Company of Others
Testimonies of hope for those who are isolated.
The Company of Others, filled with beautiful photographs, tells the stories of five unique individuals who are surrounded by social “circles” – friends and family whose respect, encouragement and love gives them a sense of belonging in the world. In an era in which isolation and loneliness are widespread in our communities, the stories in The Company of Others are profoundly inspiring, giving hope to anyone who is or knows a person who has been excluded from living a full and meaningful life. This is not a book about helping others, but rather a proposal for a better way of living together in community. It is designed for individuals working with or living with people who are socially isolated, including youth, seniors, and people with disabilities and chronic health challenges.
Writer Sandra Shields and photographer David Campion fuse creative non-fiction and documentary photography in a beautiful narrative approach to contemporary issues. The Company of Others is an extraordinary and moving book about the transformational power of community on “vulnerable” individuals - and how the results help enrich us a society.
