What Makes for a Good Life?
We talk a lot about planning for and creating "a good life" for our loved ones with a disability. But what exactly does that mean? At PLAN Toronto, we have learned that for our relative to live a good life, five key elements must be present:
- A network of caring friends and family
- Adequate financial resources
- The ability and opportunity to contribute one's gifts to the community
- A home of one's own
- Control over one's life and the opportunity to make choices
At PLAN, we’ve discovered that when you plan for the future you change the present for both your loved one and your family. Planning to build a good life not only gives direction to the efforts of your relative with a disability, but to everyone's efforts, including the larger family unit and, ultimately, the surrounding community.
You'll find that "a good life" is woven throughout all of our information, resources and seminars. PLAN's two best-selling publications written by Al Etmanski - A Good Life and Safe and Secure - explore the concepts of a good life in detail and offer hands-on planning guidance and worksheets. You can also sign up for our seminar series, Planning for a Good Life in Uncertain Times, which has been designed as a comprehensive approach to building a good life. |
